This was the week of birthdays! Tate's first birthday was on Tuesday (Feb. 17th) and John's is today (Sunday). We wanted to celebrate with family, but my family was out-of-town (Disneyland) so we opted to hold out on the celebrating until this weekend when they were back home. As much as I wanted to have everyone over to our house, it was just seeming that us bringing the party to the families was going to work out best.
Even though we weren't celebrating his birthday until the weekend, we thought Tate should open up a present on his actual birthday. John was giving Tate some pointers on opening presents. Um, Tate seemed totally uninterested in his very cute shirt I got him:) Once open, Tate just climbed down off John's lap and found another toy. Oh well!
The order of these is a bit out-of-order . . . we were at Grandma and Grandpa Krohn's Saturday afternoon to celebrate. Grandma Krohn had a present for Tate, but he had to wait for Grandpa to get there. It was so funny, because she kept pushing buttons on the toy so it made noises and Tate kept wanting to get into the bag. At first he would just look down into the box . . .
And then he started reaching into the bag . . . (being patient is hard for a 1 year old)
Down he went for the surprise!
Grandpa made it there in time for the reaction.
Tate LOVES it!
Grandma Krohn has these really cool flowers on long wires that Tate just loved grabbing and bending (good thing Grandma didn't mind). We've been practicing sniffing and he was doing good with the flowers.
The birthday boys!
John got out all his candles and the last one was for Tate.
Tate has been like a little doggy carrying everything around in his mouth--especially his blanky. Whatever keeps him happy.
Yea, Aunt Angie was in town for the party! It was great to see Angie and hear how she's been doing in Utah.
Birthday Party at the Pelton's Friday night.
Yes, that's icecream cake #2 for John. What a lucky boy. He got all those candles out on one big blow. There was a lot of smoke (guess that means he's getting old:))
Karrie got John this cool book. I think this might be the first book John voluntarily reads. (He's not much of a reader:)) It's a book about how to make balloon animals. Very thoughtful!
Tate's birthday dinner included baby burgers . . . he was a champ chomping into it.
And of course there were tater tots for our little tater!
Birthday number 1: It's really hard to believe it's been a year! It's true what they say, they get big so fast and the time really flies.

Tate likes just about all foods, especially foods that are sweet. Knowing that, I figured there would be no hesitation with getting to dig right into his very own cupcake. And there really was no hesitation. We had to hold back those little fingers from grabbing the candle and then John tried to help. That wasn't really working, because I didn't want his clothes to get stained from the frosting (strong food coloring).
I took off the shirt to Tate could more fully enjoy making a mess of himself and I wouldn't worry about the clothes.
Can you tell how he felt about my decision to take the clothes off?????

Happy again with the cupcake back in hand.
I'd say he liked it! A lot.
Tate was actually a pretty neat eater. He kept it mostly on his face. I think he ate most of the cupcake without stopping. (Only some of it came back up before bed)

That looks like a good "Big-Boy" truck to play with in the dirt.
Lots of cute clothes and books.
Tate really enjoys turning pages in books (and sucking on the outside).

Uncle Andrew was so nice to hold Tate in his new jammies from Grandma. The PJ's even have matching shorts for when it's a bit warmer out.

I think these moose ears came especially from Disneyland (or somewhere around there) for the birthday boy. (I think in this picture Tate looks like his cousin Ian). What more do you need then moose ears and a full belly for your birthday?!
We're sorry all the family couldn't be there to celebrate with us. We hope these pictures make you feel like you were there:) Thanks to those that were there and able to celebrate Tate's first birthday and John's 33rd birthday with us!
