This might be the only kind of pet I can be okay with.
The kind that stays in a locked-up cage.
No feeding required.
No picking up of poop required.
No noises.
Doesn't take up much space.
Ants.
I like them.
Tate got an ant farm for Christmas.
Ants not included.
We had to wait for the special package to arrive in the mail, only when the weather conditions were warm enough for the little ants to survive the postal system.
We waited what seemed like months. Tate would check the mail everyday waiting for those ants to get here.
What seemed like an eternity, was in reality probably only a couple weeks (an eternity for Tate!).
And then the tube of happiness arrived.
"LIVE CREATURES" it said on the packaging.
We prepped their new habitat (started tunnels for them), got the lid close by, and got ready to release our pets into their new home.
It should have been so easy!
I guess the long trip for the ants to get to our house puts them to sleep or some restful, non-moving state. Well, then they wake up and start moving!
Right as John is trying to get them in the ant farm, some escape!
You should have seen us all screaming like they were tarantulas on the loose.
We were screaming "get the ants! They are getting all over!"
We tried to save them all and get them in their habitat, but unfortunately not all survived the escape plan.
Safe at home the ants are now.
We are all calmed down after a traumatic start to being pet owners!
Not planning on moving up in the pet world to anything else anytime soon.
For now, the boys love their ants.
They get to put a smiley face on their job chart for taking care of their pet.
Tate and Blake make sure to watch their progress with tunnel digging and burying the dead ants everyday.
I think we will all be a little sad when the ants are no more.
