Wild Animals

I need to remind myself that the Woodland Park Zoo is a "big kid" zoo.  I was glad we got a Groupon to go and didn't pay full price ($17.50!!!/person), but it still wasn't the best experience I've had at the zoo.  As hard as I try to work around naps and cranky times so we'll not have those kind of kids . . . that what we end up with.  Tate had to bring puddy the polar bear who got precedence in the stroller.  We had to get Tate an ice cream cone to make the change (Blake for puddy).
That helped Blake a little, getting a ride, but he was one tired boy after the hour drive to the zoo and then finding parking and getting in (it all took a long time).
The zoo has some great exhibits.  Love the hippos!  My complaint is just that the exhibits are so far apart.  You have to do a lot of walking to see a few animals and at 3-year-old-pace, we didn't get to see many before they had had enough.  Of course we brought Karrie because nothing is as fun as it could be if Karrie's not there.
Checking out the giraffes and hippos.

Our last stop before calling it a day was the family farm.  Again, I was a bit disappointed that there weren't more animals for the kids to see and pet, but Tate and puddy liked petting the goats.  Blake just played in all the gravel until the workers told us not to have him do that b/c basically it is really dirty and full of germs from all the "goat stuff."  Awesome.  Thanks for telling us that before Blake had spent the last five to ten minutes getting it all over himself.
Tate turned out to be pretty good at milking a cow.
Blake was quite interested in the old water pump.  He likes to figure things out and anything with moving parts becomes a fun game.

Awe, the sign of a good afternoon--really dirty feet.  Can't seem to get Tate out of flip-flops yet.
Ya for a nap in the car-ride home.  Right after we stopped at Dick's that is.  The best part of the trip:)

I agree the zoo is for kids a little older. It's definitely not worth the full (and outrageous) price to have both kids and parents dying from exhaustion and quite frankly, boredom (it seems like the animals are usually asleep and/or hiding). Glad you survived it though. We too always end our zoo trip with a stop at Dick's. Mmm mmm for chocolate milkshakes. :)
