A Zoo Day

Last weekend we finally got a couple days that made us believe it really is summer. Unlike this weekend when we've had the fire going and watched the rain come down! Anyways, John and I thought it would be fun to check out the Point Defiance Zoo. Neither of us had been because we usually always go to the Woodland Park Zoo. We heard from a number of people that Point Defiance is a great zoo and geared more towards younger kids. We talked Auntie Karrie into coming with us and that made Tate's day. We were lucky to have her there because the drive was supposed to take about 50 minutes but ended up twice as long. Apparently, there was a run that morning that went through the zoo, so they closed down the parking lot. Luckily we didn't get there any earlier, because we would have just been sitting in traffic longer than we were. Tate didn't seem to mind because he had Auntie right next to him keeping him entertained. When they finally opened the gates we got a great parking spot right near the entrance. That almost made the long wait worth it not to have to walk 20 minutes just to get to the front gate. It was a beautiful day for the zoo. Tate was happy to get out of the car and walk. Blake was a sweaty mess from being in the car seat, so we let him air out also before putting him in the stroller.
One of Tate's favorite stops was watching the elephants. This elephant came over and hung out right close. Tate was sitting on the fence eyes following the elephant's every move.
This zoo doesn't have much of a "petting zoo," but what they do have are some VERY hungry goats. You can get about 5 pieces of food for 50 cents and watch the goats jump over each other as they all try to get the food. The food must be something great because the goats would just go crazy for it!
Tate found more food on the ground (he is a resourceful little one), and this goat just about jumped over the fence trying to get it.

Tate didn't last too long walking around. He had Karrie carry him around most of the time (she must have needed a workout), and then he finally decided the stroller would work. I have to say this is the best double stroller. It moves and turns so easily and each seat reclines back, there is a hood on each side for some shade, seriously so great. The best find from a garage sale!

The aquarium was our favorite part! They had a shallow pool with sea creatures that the kids could touch. Tate was learning the "one finger rule." Only touch the animals with one finger. He wanted to pick them up and squeeze them.
The shark display was awesome! Unfortunately, we missed the shark feeding time since we got held up at the entrance, but they were still a sight to see. Tate just jumped around the room saying "shark, shark." The workers even had shark teeth for Tate to touch. He was more impressed with the real thing though. We had a lot of fun and are looking forward to the next sunny weekend so we can go back and see all the displays. At this point I'm not sure if we'll ever get the sun back!
Two sleeping kids and one sleeping Auntie. (So cute!) Just what I like . . . a quiet drive home.

Mom you'd really like it and we didn't even get to see all the animals. Tate was pretty cute saying, "sharks, sharks and ellie's (elephants)".

Point Defiance is awesome. Call us next time too. We love it. And I always run in the Sound to Narrows race. It's fun. You can do a 12k or a 5k and it's gorgeous. You guys should come and run with me next year...
