My friend Paige and I were walking around the track at the high school across the street from our neighborhood. I think the conversation turned to the Olympics coming up and then we thought, "Hey! We should do a mini Olympics for our kids."
With the two of us, surly we can throw together something fun in about 10 days.
And that's how it got started.
It turned into this:
Name bibs that the kids would pin onto their shirts when they arrived.
Some fun goodies for after the event:
PB and jelly sandwich, pretzels, water bottle, Olympic ring cookies and a gold metal for participation.
The batons for the relay race.
The events: hurdles, sprints, long jump, obstacle course, ball throw, and relay race as a group.
Paige and I had visions for this fabulous table with the refreshments and metals displayed . . . we didn't take into consideration Mother Nature though (darn-it). It was windy on the field and the metal holder over kept falling over which then knocked over all the water bottles and just messed things up!
After a number of attempts to anchor things down, and not wanting to hold up the start time anymore then it already had, we just decided it was not going to be our vision but the kids probably wouldn't care. They didn't. They were so thirsty and hungry they were just happy to sit down and have a drink. Nice having an easy audience to please!
Each kiddo got a chocolate metal for participating!
(I won't mention how hot it was that morning and how chocolate doesn't like the heat:))
The much needed thirst quenchers!
We had everything ready for the big Olympic Kick-off in the morning.
